Editorial Board Report 2018-19

The Business Café (formerly the Magazine Committee) has traversed its year long, beautiful journey by creating eventful memories, and bringing forth, to its cherished readers, the magical works of all of its contributors.

The session commenced with rechristening of the committee as The Business Café (TBC), the editorial board of Department of Commerce. The beautiful journey started with TBC launching its premium business bi monthly magazine- BizGeist which produced a wide variety of informative pieces, drawing insights from the major business affairs taking place across the globe. BizGeist is not just a business periodical, but also an endeavour to provide invigorating space for nascent entrepreneurs. The periodical attempts to provide a comprehensive insight to the contemporary events. While the prime focus is on capturing episodes of business, economic and financial nature, due emphasis has been given on events of other genres. October 11 has been earmarked in the history of TBC as it launched the first issue of the very first volume of BizGeist on the said day. The issue was uncovered by Dr. (Prof.) Saudamini Das, environmental economist, and NABARD Chair Professor at Indian Institute of Economic Growth.

A total of three issues were released a part of Volume 1 (2018). The leitmotif of the first issue, “Crippling Currencies” (August- September 2018), was to capture the play-offs between various world currencies. On the other hand, the heart of the second edition, “Two Nations. Two Leaders. Two Situations.” (September- October 2018), lied in two stories that delineate two different macro-economies, India & it’s half-brother Pakistan, and the contrasting situations they were facing at that moment.

Lastly, the valedictory edition of the inaugural volume was a picturesque edition. Suggesting its quintessence, the release had been christened as “BigWigs”. BizGeist made an exciting comeback with its Volume 2 Issue 1. The edition was titled as ‘Various Shades of India’ and was centric to the diverse behaviour of India.

TBC has had an exhilarating online presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, apart from its own official Twitter handle and it continues to serve its viewers and readers through the same. We started off with every day in a week earmarked for weekly articles, quotes, myth busters, weekly movie reviews among other things. All the editions of BizGeist also had their share of online presence with online periodicals of those editions being available on wordpress thus catering to a wide reader base.

This memorable journey was also marked by a propitious occasion in the form of the first ever Paper Presentation Competition organised by the TBC along with Spectrasmith during Lashkara- the annual fest of SGTB Khalsa College. The PPC 1.0 turned out to be a successful initiative with the winning entries being- ‘The Binary Impact of Piracy’ and ‘The Power of People Analytics’. Spectrasmith, too, witnessed an impressive turnout on account of eye-catching activities like murder mystery, whodunnit, anagram and word taboo.

On this note, The Business Café wrapped up its schedule for the academic year 2018-19 and is highly indebted to all those who have toiled day and night to bring to life visionary ideas through powerful words and especially the Teachers-in-Charge for their never-ending support.
